I love this grunge inspired look using high fashion pieces. The coat(similar here), the hat(similar Surell here, similar Topshop hat) and the skirt(similar here) looks like they all belong to a collector of vintage fashion, speaking of which how many times have we seen this look worn with brogues(similar here). This style could become one of the defining trends of our generation.

This past Sunday's school sophisti"cat" wore a summery yellow dress with black stars design and it shows how prints can easily uplift a one tone piece of clothing. Prints add personality and a unique sense of style to an outfit. Yellow represents illuminating light, warmth, an ingredient for growth, and black represents power and strength and when the two are combined on a sheath of cloth, the clothes create a lasting impression. I love that this dress(similar here) is glam enough to be able to strut down a red carpet and dazzle with elegance, yet with the bag(similar here) it is simple enough to breeze through any casual event, and overall still classy enough to wear as a Sunday's school sophisti"cat" look.

I love the idea of pairing a bodycon dress with a loose fitting flyaway gown. The blend of the noir style and beauty, with an urban edge would be a great mix. This style idea may raise a couple of questions like: why would you want to wear two dresses at once? Well it's all about layering and mixing different style ideas. You can layer a long coat over a dress or layer a vest over a shirt and put a jacket over that and this style idea is very similar to those examples. Even though your outfit may be a little bit heavier it will be worth it when you find two dresses that blend like they were made for each other.

I stared at this photo for the longest while trying to figure out whether I should feature it as a 'Tomboy' or an 'Urban' look. Well now you know which style won that decision, but as I looked at this picture trying to make up my mind these were my reasons to myself: 'well it looks tomboy because of the shoes(similar here), the menswear inspired boots definitely make this look tomboy.' My argument for urban: 'well the beautiful pleated dress(similar here) and the sheer design above and below the bust are definitely urban style'. Another argument for tomboy: 'well her overall look is a bit gamine. Some would refer to her hairstyle as not very feminine'. Then I thought 'there are many beautiful women who have short hairstyle and are still very feminine' and that's when it hit me. The leather jacket(similar here) worn over the modern take on the LBD are nothing if not urban. I love that the jacket has a scoop neck so even when it is zipped up, you can see the sheer design at the throat, which shows a glimpse of what's underneath. Then I looked at the way she's posing in this pic, and the way she's holding her handbag(similar here) and I saw that this look was not tomboy at all. Sometimes a simple outfit like this one makes you re-consider the way you categorize style because rarely does it ever fit into just one category.

Spring is here and this is a great vintage look to wear as the weather transitions to hotter temperatures. This dress(similar here) looks like a more comfortable version of the traditional vintage fit, and the t-strap shoes(similar here) have an average sized heel and a slight platform wedge which makes it appropriate for strolling around even if you're just going out to enjoy the fresh air. One of my favourite things about this look is how the addition of the Louis Vuitton bag(similar here) adds loads of luxury to the casual-vintage look.

If  you didn't scroll down to look at the entire outfit wouldn't you have thought that the Tadashi Shoji dress was a floor sweeping gown with a flare hem to balance out the peplum top, or even a longer length with a flare train. If they are similarly styled, a short dress can have the same magic as a long gown.

A blue denim dress(similar Urban Outfitters dress, similar River Island dress) worn over pants seems to be a popular noi saf tomboy style. It feels like I've come across this outfit a thousand times and now that I have seen it with this denim dress I'm now realizing that something was missing. I can see this dress worn in a casual style with the ankle boots(similar San Crispino boots, similar Need Supply Co. boots), and a printed headband.

  

This past Sunday's school sophisti"cat" was more that cool in her leather skirt look. She, like all of the ladies above looked classy and ultra feminine with a bit of an edge. This is what I liked about each of their looks: Kenzie faith(top right), floral and leather, I love this combo of feminine and rock-chic; Patience(top left), I love the casual mix of the jean jacket; Face Hunter(bottom left), for this look the effect of black leather has been somewhat neutralized with earth tones, I like that; Joy(bottom right) love the combination of leather skirt and leather boots! photos: JustPatience, Kenzie faith, Face Hunter, Joy Loves Fashion

 

 

The peplum top(similar Kinchi Blue top, similar Trina Turk top) and leather skirt(similar here) are kind of a "wear anywhere" look,  depending on how you dress it up. I can see the top and the skirt worn with flats, sandals, sneakers, or boots and not one of the outfits - if styled properly - would be better than the others.

 

 

If you're up for a challenge and you're looking for a creative way to express yourself through your personal style, this is a great idea for you. This is a cool way to create a project that you can wear at the same time. Kinda like a show-and-tell project on your body.

 

Apparently duct tape outfit creations are a popular choice for A.B.C - Anything But Clothes - parties, where partygoers are to attend wearing an outfit they create that is made out of anything but clothing fabrics. Some of the outfits created usually consists of food, playing cards, foil, plastic bags, candy wrappers, newspapers, and of course duct tape. There is also a duct tape prom challenge, sponsored by Duck Brand duct tape where attendees design dresses and suits made entirely out of duct tape to vie for the best creative look and to win a scholarship prize.

 

I would absolutely wear a duct tape dress, the ones I saw online are so beautiful!

I want to wear with: Reed Krakoff clutch, Brian Atwood sandals

I wanted to create a sophisticated and professional look with this dress(similar American Apparel dress), so I paired it with black accessories to balance out the bold prints and colours. Usually for professional engagements neutral shades are the accepted norm and people tend to shy away from bright colours, but I think this dress is classy and elegant enough to wear to a meeting, a business dinner, or any networking event. The print is just beautiful. Check out the first outfit post where I paired it with pink Alexander McQueen sandals and a clutch from the same designer. I saw this style idea a long while back, and initially I thought that girls looked better rocking this, because back then it seemed like there was something missing in the empty space at the throat where men usually wore a tie. Well this style has definitely grown on me. It's a modern take on men's fashion and an evolution of universal style and there are so many different combinations of shirts and jackets/coats that can be created using this formula, that I can't help but really like it. photos: The Locals, I'm Koo
